SANTIAGO Caleta Bucanero
James Bay
is a beautiful calm water beach. It is located at the North East of Santiago Island. It has 585 Km2 and 906 meters over the sea level. It id one of the most interesting places, due to its special characteristics. One of them is a foot-path to the natural pools and tide puddle, where you can observe invertebrate sea animals, double hair sea lions, marine iguanas, crabs, sea lions, sparrow-hawks, herons, migratory birds and volcano sights.There is another footpath, which takes you to a volcanic ash type lava cone. Inside of it you find a small salty water lake, from where they have extracted salt for several years. The called "salt crater", is the small lake birds house, like flamingos, ostreaceous, etc.; and around it, and during all the way, it is easy to observe a good representation of xerofilic flora; just like their habitants, like rock-doves, chaffinches, cucuves, sparrow-hawks, etc.
At the end of the journey, you will enjoy of a black sand beach, and of its crystalline and refreshing sea.
Sullivan Bay
is found in Santiago Island too. There is a cord sharped lava flow in this place, product of a volcanic eruption of Santiago Island during 1903. It is an excellent colors and typical forms sample, which contrast with some more antique places. It is really notorious and exemplar the colonization of some plants and insects in this place. It is and excellent scenario of young volcanic cones. Its beach and rocs coast is a good place to swim and snorkel.Playa Espumilla
is in Santiago Island, and is the biggest beach this island has. It has thin and wines color sand. There is a mangle wood behind it; and there are two small lakes inside it. In one of them, you can observe small lake birds, like flamingos, small ducks, royal teruterus, and some others.There is a footpath inside the island, where you will enjoy on another type of wood. Palo Santo predominates in this place. During the entire journey you will see chaffinches, rock doves, cucuves and some other birds. Flying pelicans and frigates are very common in this place, and sometimes. Pelicans nest during reproduction time at the right side of the beach.
Sombrero Chino
is a big satellite island of Santiago Island, which fresh lava and little innovator vegetation. With excellent contrasting and beautiful colors, and -like its name says-, its excellent form is alike a Chinese hat. In this canal which gets formed between Santiago Island and this big Island, you will bind small beaches with sea lions, marine iguanas and penguins, to mention some of the animals. Bartolome Island
has a 1,2 Km2 extension and 114 meters over the sea level height. It is separated from Santiago Island by a very narrow canal. It is formed -like all of the islands- by balsatic laves. You find some kinds of laves here. Over them you will see clearly the colonization examples and Eco/geological examples which the islands have been having. Its singular sight presents scenarios, which could be compared with pictures take at the moon. In the Northwest beach, you will be able to swim, see the penguins, go snorkeling, see the sunset, etc. And at the Southeast beach, you will see sharks, rays and turtles very often.
