ISABELA ISLAND

Punta Albermale: It is in Isabelle Island. This place was used by the American militaries during the Second World War. The main attractive of it are the marine iguanas, which are the biggest of the island; the no flying cormorants, crabs, coast birds, and so.

Urbina Bay is a place at the North of Isabelle Island; its special characteristic is to be a zone, product of a sea elevation. This ecological event happened in 1954, with the eruption of Alcedo Volcano. In this place you can find corals, shells, and many other calcareous organisms, exposed out of the water. There are terrestrial and marine iguanas, and terrestrial turtles.

Caleta Tagus is in Isabelle Island. It was a pirate's refuge during XVII and XVIII centuries. You can still see gratifies in the clefts, made by the pirates, which make their legend. Surrounding Caleta, which is nothing but an eroded old volcanic cone in one side to form the entry of the anchorage, you can see penguins, pelicans, etc.

There is a footpath, which takes you to the other volcanic cone. There is a lake inside of it. The vegetation and the volcano sight make of this a unique place, to never forget.

Puerto Villamil: It is at the East of Isabelle Island. This port has little touristic infrastructure, buts it is very colored and it maybe has about 1000 habitants, count among them people who leave in the farms and in the port. This port has very big white and thin sand, over which they have seen many varieties of migrating birds. There are many small lakes with grove of mangrove-trees behind the dune, and one at the center of the town, which almost all the time has flamingos in it.
Here you will find the new
Racing Terrestrial turtles Center named "Arnaldo Tupiza", which gives the opportunity to understand the National Park protection programs, in coordination with the "Charles Darwin" Research Station. From here you can see the Tears Wall. You can get this place by car from Puerto Villamil. Actually, you can get to the edge of the Sierra Negra crater, which has 11 x 9 Km inside; this will be an excellent experience, cause the Island has from 0 to 1100 metros, with different vegetation zones and delicious temperatures.

Elizabeth Bay is located in Isabelle Island too. The union of the Sierra Negra volcanoes -the second biggest and active volcano of the world- and of Alcedo volcano formed it. This wide bay counts with a very high and nice grove of mangrove-trees, which contrasts with the lava. In this place, many marine species get feed. We can count between them: rays, sharks, marine turtles, penguins, pelicans, boobies, sea lions, and fishes in general. Some setaceous can be seen when navigating at the North West part of Isabelle, and around Fernandina.

Alcedo Volcano is in Isabelle Island. This is the biggest and youngest of the Archipelago. It has 4588 Km2 and 1707 Mts. over the sea level. Alcedo Volcano is one of the six active volcanoes that the Island has. To get to the crest, at approximately 1200 Mts., 5 hours journey are necessary. During the journey you will enjoy the vegetable zones and temperature changes, of terrestrial birds, etc. On the crest bucket, you will be able to appreciate the laps and boards with their entire splendor. Inside of it, you will be able to see big turtles: one of the 11 varieties which survive in the Archipelago, and in the same way the fumaroles and snores of a sleeping volcano ...

FERNANDINA

Punta Espinoza is found in Fernandina, with 642 Km2 and 1492 metros over the sea level. It has a main volcano that is one of the most active in the world. Fernandina is a very young island, and that's why Punta Espinoza has fresh laves, over which you will be able to observe the first colonization of plants and animals.

Cerro Dragon: Landing on this island might be hummed or dry, depending of how high the tide is. There are a few marine iguanas some times. Following the way, you can find terrestrial iguanas and several kinds of birds.

Finally, a recommendation: To take the tour, the visitor should be equipped for rocky, muddy, sunny, rainy, windy ways, etc. Your guide will tell you each day, the conditions of weather and terrene that you will find, and the type of equipment you will have to take with you.
